I remember not long ago reading through the book of Job. Life had thrown me a very wicked curve ball that buckled me to my knees. I was desperate to find peace in the midst of a storm. It seemed like the more that I read Job’s story the worse the situation became. I wanted to quit reading, but I pressed on anyway. In heartfelt repentance I confessed my sins and I prayed to God for relief. And even though it was one of the toughest times that I'd ever gone through in life, I did not curse God or walk away from Him.
Tough times will come to all of us. Whether financial, illness, or death, everyone will face dark days. When those times happen, you'll probably ask God “Why me?” You may even feel like you’ve done something to deserve God’s punishment or wrath. You may even feel like God’s presence seems so far away, and you feel so alone.
Paul asked, “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death” (Romans 8:35, NLT)? Countless people have asked that question throughout the ages. Because when life is tough, we feel like God does not love us like He once did. But that kind of thinking is wrong!
God does love us! And though we may never know the answer to the “why me” question, we must continue to place our faith in the Lord and believe that he does love us! Paul wrote, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39, NLT).
So when hard times come your way, always remember that God has you in His hand! |
