Strongholds - Just the word can often put great fear into the spiritually timid or the one who isn't quite ready to face spiritual opposition.
However, I have found a verse recently that really spoke to me. We never ever hear about the positive aspect of a stronghold. Let me explain.
The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
My thought is this: If the LORD is my stronghold, isn't that a good thing? All these spiritual 'strongholds' of the enemy that we prayerfully tear down need to have something built up in their place. If you are praying for a stronghold to be torn down, be sure to pray for a stronghold of the LORD to be brought up in it's place or better yet, just claim this verse for yourself. Declare that the LORD IS THE STRONGHOLD of your life and permanently stand behind His word! The scriptures call Him our strong tower and a strong fortress. They also say he has a strong hand. He is our refuge and strength.
Websters defines a stronghold as a fortress, a place which is difficult to capture.
I don't know about you, but I want my life to be so deeply imbedded in scripture and in the LORD that it is held captive only by Jesus Christ himself! I want the power of Christ in my life so that fear can not even capture my thoughts. That pride can not capture my attitude. That anger and bitterness can not capture my emotions.
Psalm 91 tells us He is our fortress. Be protected in the stronghold of Christ. Be under the protection of His feathers and His wings. Fear no evil in the stronghold of His love and protection. Find peace and comfort in the shadow of His wings.
